I'm so fed up with our cloth diapers. I've always battled stink issues, but now it's just getting to be too much. I've switched detergents and washing routines too many times to count. Right now, I'm using Allens Naturally. I do a cold rinse with nothing, then a hot wash/cold rinse. I use 2 cap-fulls of liquid detergent. (Which is only slightly less then what the directions say to use for a normal wash of clothes. I tried using only 1 cap-full and the stink got worse.) I sun them whenever possible. I use dry pails. I wash every 2-3 days. (I was washing every day when both boys were in CDs full time, but since I'm also losing my mind, that's not the ideal option.

Elliot's already in disposables at daycare (3 days per week) and at night. Felix is in disposables at night and whenever I run out of his CDs or if I have to go somewhere where I know the stink of CDs will be noticed (I'm so tired of people handing him back and telling me he needs a change!) - although, these days, Felix is in a disposable at least once during the day, no matter how many CDs are clean.

I'm thinking of quitting CDs, for Felix, until he can fit better into the medium FBs in another 2 months or so. The stink issues always seem to be with the Sandys dipes, not the FBs anyway.

Ugh. But we can't afford to use disposables full time. I never wanted to use them in the first place! And after spending so much money on CDs, I hate to give it all up now... I really don't want to, but it's so tempting. Felix is so happy in disposables and has so many more cute outfits to wear!

Bah!

Elliot had a massive poo-explosion while we were at a restaurant yesterday. It seeped out of the side of the diaper, through his jeans (yes, I had him in his first "outfit") and all down his leg to his sock. What a mess... And, to make matters worse, I didn't have my full diaper bag with me, so I only had an extra pair of pants, not a top (he was wearing a onsie that got all full of poo at the bottom), so I was carrying a mostly naked child around until we got home! But at least it was a mostly naked, happy and CLEAN child!!

So...we started him in cloth diapers last night, and so far so good - but no more poos yet, so we'll see how the cloth diapers handle that! It's a bit of a challenge to get the cloth diaper wrapped around him, and we're experimenting with different methods of folding. He really notices when he's wet now, so he's been a bit fussier today. Not to mention the 6 week growth spurt, which i think he's just starting - he's cluster feeding every hour!

Baby's movement had decreased in intensity over the last 2 weeks. I was a bit concerned, but not overly worried, since the frequency was the same. After yoga Thursday night, baby must have changed positions because it's been non-stop strong movements and pokes & kicks ever since!

We've decided to use mainly cloth diapers, which should be interesting. I can't wait to see how that works for us. I'm not worried about the hassle of laundry, but the upfront expense is a bit daunting. We've registered at a cloth diaper company, so hopefully that will help.
