Before my hospital stay, I was starting to puff. I sleep with socks at night unless it's really humid, and I was noticing an indent in my skin when I woke up, or at the end of the day. I never paid much attention to it, until I got out of the hospital and realized that I actually had a curve between the end of my leg and foot... and it was a normal curve! I had such slim little ankles!! And I continued to have ankles throughout my bed rest. Until today, that is.
Well, it was very humid here today. I did a lot of walking/standing. (Yep, bed rest flew right out the window. In my defense, I had a friend with a car drop in and she drove me around. But shopping makes you walk a lot!!) And now I'm all puffy. I still have a bit of indent - I can see where that slim little ankle used to be.
Ugh. I hate the term "cankles".
I've been resting with my feet up since I got home this evening. My fingers have started to puff, too. Luckily, I took my rings off due to the IV making me swell in the hospital and never got around to putting them back on, so I don't have to worry about them getting stuck on me. (Side note to self: take rings to be inspected before the end of the month or it voids warranty!!!)
*sigh*

Elliot knows his name is Elliot, but still refers to himself as "boy", as in "Boy coming!" (when I try to go somewhere without him.) or "Boy run away!" (When it's time for a new diaper or cleaning up toys) or "Boy awake now!" (In the morning or after naps) or "Boy have it, have it, have it!!!" (Accompanied by a grasping hand and followed with a screaming tantrum if he doesn't get what he wants.)

My sciatica is driving me crazy. I woke Jay up moaning in pain yesterday morning - I was so panicked because it was burning numbing pain from my hips to ankles that I could barely verbalize what was wrong and he thought Boo was coming.
Things that normally help are regular chiro (it's been at least 8 weeks since my last appt), lots of stretching, keeping active, soaking in the tub, hot packs (which I've been using) and sitting on my exercise ball (and doing pelvic rotations, etc, while on the ball).
I'm not leaking fluid, to my knowledge, but my instructions were to not take a bath But at my last appointment, my dr mentioned that baths were probably ok, as long as the tub was clean and I didn't go overboard with fragrances, etc.
I'm sitting on my ball right now and it feels nice - but I'm hesitant to do any of the rotations in case it makes Boo drop or me start contracting or breaks my water again. I've slowly started doing stretches before bed and in the morning - which feel heavenly - but again, I'm nervous. I want to soak in the tub.

Had an overwhelming urge to have our bags packed and ready to go. So yesterday I washed all the newborn clothes and blankets we planned to bring and packed them up. I have a few things left of mine to wash, and a short list of things to pick up once I'm off bedrest (or I'll send Jay) and then we're ready in case something happens.
Since the urge was so strong, I really didn't want to put it off.
Oh, and did I mention the dream I had where I went into labour 6 weeks early? This was even before the water breaking incident. And 6 weeks early is, like, now.

Bedrest: Home vs Hospital
Home (pros):
In my own place, sleep in my own bed
Get to see Elliot/Jay
My computer, TV etc
Time to read/rest/etc
Fresh air
Cons:
Get to see Elliot but can't do much with him
Less careful about following bedrest rules
Get to watch someone else parent my son
Feel like I have to keep up with the cleaning/cooking - or not doing it and seeing the filth rise up around me
Feel like shit for sitting on my butt reading instead of playing with Elliot or doing housework
Hospital (pros):
Much more likely to adhere to bedrest
Daily check ups to make sure Boo is ok - peace of mind
Guilt free reading/resting
They bring me food whenever I want
Cons:
Stale air
Don't see Elliot much at all (2 hours per day, roughly)
Hospital food isn't fantastic
Boredom
Have to pay for phone/TV/internet
Longer hours to pay for the nanny
Harder on Jay
So, I'm 34 weeks now, according my doctors (which is a week shy of MY dates), which means only 2 more weeks of this bedrest.
I am on my feet for a huge part of the day. Jay gets Elliot changed when he wakes up, around 7, then I come downstairs with him and give him his snack while Jay gets ready for work. I'm usually at my computer at that point. When Jay comes downstairs, I move to the couch for maybe 30 minutes. Jay is out the door by 8:30, I get Elliot his breakfast and eat something too... then we watch TV until the nanny gets here around 9:20. That's when I head upstairs to shower, etc.
N puts Elliot down for a nap around 11, and I usually go lay down in my bed then, too (which is on the second floor.) I get up and make myself lunch around 1, and N does the same for Elliot whenever he gets up. I move to the couch at this point and then they usually gear up and go for a walk or run errands until 4:30ish.
N leaves at 5:30. Elliot and I read books or sit on the front steps watching traffic for a while, then he watches TV while I get supper ready. Elliot eats around 6:15. I move to the couch when Jay gets home around 6:45. Depending on what's in the house, either Jay and I eat then, or he's stopped at the store to pick something up for us to make later. Sometimes Elliot and I go out to the front step to wait for Jay, other times, Jay gets home in time to clean Elliot up and get him out of his chair. They wrestle and have playtime until 7:30, when Jay gets the bath ready. I go up and sit on the floor to watch. I read the bedtime story and Jay tucks him in. Then we come downstairs to either cook and eat our own supper, or we watch TV for a bit.
During the day, I've been either dragging a chair over to the sink to wash dishes or scrubbing the toilet/tub while sitting on the floor or doing laundry. (I get someone to carry it to/from the washer in the basement, though.) Usually, I only do one of those things per day.
Really, the only thing modified about my bedrest is that I don't pick Elliot up unless I'm sitting down, and I don't lift him in or out of his crib. I also don't go for walks (which is hard, since I walk everywhere and enjoy it.) Everything else is pretty much business as usual.
But, I haven't been sleeping well at night. I'm at that nausea-before/after-eating stage of pregnancy, and I'm getting over-emotional. (I've had breaks downs the last 2 mornings - poor Jay.) So I know I'm overdoing things. But as much as I know Boo needs me to do this and as lazy-natured a person I am, I'm finding it hard to sit still and do nothing. That's the main reason I think I'd do better in the hospital - it would force me to do nothing. But the downside of being in the hospital is pretty big, so I want to avoid that.
Bah!!!!

So, somehow, the word 'truck' has morphed into "co-co". He can still say truck, and will repeat it back to you, but whenever he sees one, or is playing with his toys, it's a 'fire co-co' or 'BIG CO-COs!!!" No idea how or why this change happened, but it's pretty new.
He's doing this adorable thing where he reverses the syllables in words. The Backyardigan's Austin is "Autis', 'penis" is now "pensi" and words that end in "r" (door, more etc) now end with "ee" (do-ee, mo-ee). I'd read about kids doing this, and it sounds so cute! We just make sure to say the word correctly - "Yes, that's your penis." "Yes, you can have more milk." "That IS a big truck!".

It was bed time and Elliot was stalling by running into M's room. I followed him in, just in time for him to grab a mostly full glass of water and knock it over. Luckily, it didn't flood any of the electronic equipment. I picked Elliot up and held on to him for about a minute while Jay and M tried to find a towel. Then I realized what I was doing - picking Elliot up from a standing position and carrying him around is very much a no-no for modified bed rest!! (I toe the lines by picking him up when I'm sitting!)
I totally forgot all about bed rest! I put him down, and made sure to rest a bit more on the couch last night. I shouldn't have done it, but it's good to know that things have sealed up sufficiently that picking him up once didn't rupture anything. Not that I'll do it again, but it was a reassuring moment.
