April 29, 2008

Working 12 days in a row while 27 weeks pregnant and getting up 2-3 times per night to pee as well as at least twice per night to check on a sick toddler who has developed sleep issues AND decided to wean because he can't breathe through his nose to nurse and so has been demanding bottles at bedtime.

After this week I return to a "normal" 5 day work week, but with reduced hours (10-4... YAY!!). This is a real break from the 6 and now 7 day weeks I've been putting in!!!

But yeah, I wasn't expecting to be hit so hard with the hormones. I've been a mess. Of course, I never function well when the fatigue hits, so add that to the hormones and I'm a mess.

I'm thinking that once he can breathe again, he may ask to nurse again. So we'll see...

April 28, 2008

2 nights ago I dreamed that Boo was born 6 weeks early. It was a boy. We named him Miles.

Better not come true! And Miles isn't even on our list, although when I mentioned it to Jay, he said he liked the name. And so do I. But we don't like how it sounds with our last name.

Elliot likes to sit in the chair next to my computer. But often, he has to be reminded to sit on his bum as he stands up and dances. After pulling him down twice, I moved the chair away and told him he was done. He started to cry and drag the chair back. He had a mouthful of dry cereal. All of a sudden, his cry got very quiet and wheezy. He started turning deep red, then purple.

I could tell he was still breathing a bit because there was a faint cry. But he looked scared. I tried to scoop some cereal out of his mouth. I tried encouraging him to cough or to drink some water to help break it down. But he just turned deeper purple and looked at me so scared.

The phone started ringing just as I thought to call 911. I was freaking because someone calling in wouldn't let me call out. Luckily, at that point he coughed a bit and the cry got louder and his colour started to get better. My cell phone started to ring and I knew it was Jay trying to reach us so I answered it, with Elliot crying into my shoulder.

I was finally able to get him to drink some water afterwards and he sputtered up the rest of the cereal.

I need to take a first aid/CPR course. I've been meaning to take one for so long and keep putting it off. This just shows me how important it is to make the time to go. God, that was scary.

(And yet I STILL haven't taken that course!!)

April 24, 2008

Elliot had a bit of a runny nose yesterday, but I ignored it because the weather had cooled off and we were outside.

Throw in the early waking and uber-crank fest today along with a drippy faucet nose and yep - it's a nasty cold come bed time tonight. It's gonna be a long night, I'm sure. I hopped in the shower while Jay bathed him tonight, to help loosen things up. He couldn't nurse before bed like usual - kept popping on and off, snuffling the whole time. Of course, the soother is just useless. Jay finally got him to sleep with a bottle, but that only last about an hour and he was crying again.

I spent about half an hour rocking him, wiping his nose and shhhhing him. Then he puked slime all over me. We fell asleep twice, but only while he was propped up in my arms. The second I put him down he was awake and crying. His crib is raised, but it's such a slight angle compared to my arms when I hold him. I still hadn't had supper, (at 9:30, by this time) so I managed to get down to the basement to get Jay to come up while I ate, poor Elliot crying upstairs the whole time.

Elliot's asleep now, Jay did it somehow. But I'm not looking forward to tonight, the poor little monkey. And now I'm deliberately missing the first new epi of Greys because I know I need to get some sleep before the slime banshee is up again. I'll have to find the time to watch the (now recording) episode later this weekend. Except I don't have another day off until Friday.

Yep. Perfect timing, kiddo. I wish I could make him feel better. I hate it when he's sick.

April 16, 2008

Jay had a meeting yesterday, so he dropped Elliot off to me at work around 2:30. I took the opportunity of getting off early to go to the new blood clinic on the other side of town. I had my monthly thyroid testing as well as my glucose testing to do.

We got there, and she told me to drink the orange stuff and then come back in an hour. I had forgotten all about the waiting part - seriously, I remember it as being only 15 minutes or so last time. (I guess an hour feels like 15 minutes when you can just sit there and read and not following a roaming toddler around!) So I found an out of the way spot for the stroller and Elliot and I roamed the building and the sidewalk outside. Had lots of fun.

Back we went at the appointed time. There was a bit of a mix up, but they got me in on time. Just as I heaved myself into this huge reclining chair (that I thought I'd never get back out of!) so she could draw blood, a man walked back through the door. I had noticed him before when he went in the first time because he had an attendant and seemed a bit "slow". Anyway, he was holding his arm and there was blood dripping off of him. My lady noticed him first and excused herself (she actually asked my permission - as if I was going to fuss about her leaving me!!!) and she started to clean him up. The other blood collector, who was the one who took his blood, got called over to do mine since it was time sensitive. I didn't really want her to touch me, as she had just taken his blood and now he was a mess, but what could I do???

Turns out, he had fallen down, which tore open the vein they'd used. It stopped bleeding quickly and wasn't too serious, but it was a big mess.

My new lady started to take my blood, but after 2-3 vials, she commented on how slowly it was flowing and that she'd have to try the other arm. So over she went to poke me some more. (Elliot is watching everything with wide eyes, and he started saying "poke, poke!" once I explained.) The other vein flowed a bit faster, so she finished up and we were on our way... carefully maneuvering the stroller around blood splatter the whole way out of the building. Eeeeew!

So, here I am, 2 pokes in my arms and a gross/weird story to tell. That's all, folks!

Elliotisms...

"Keeess, keeeeeeesssssssss"... frequently followed by pointing at whichever part of himself he just bumped. Sometimes used during diaper changes or baths and accompanied with a rolling of his hips so that his butt faces mostly up. Yep. "Kiss my ass!" Cute.

"Eeeeeye" (Jabs finger in own eye) "awwwwwwww" (arms to chest, chin tucked down coyly) "oooooo" (pointing). Love you too, sweetpea!

Elliot: "Moy! Moy!"
Mama/Daddy: "You can have more playdough/crayons/books after you eat your banana/cracker/lunch."
Elliot: (very wet and muffled) "Moy? Moy!!"
Mama/Daddy "Well I didn't mean cram all your food in at once. Oh well, you're done eating now. Yes, we can play."

Elliot: "Waaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!"
Mama/Daddy: "It's 4/5/6am. Why are you awake?"
Elliot: (Head tucked down coyly) "Hiiiiiiiiiiiiii! Keeeessss! Milk. DOWN!!"

"Dooka dooka dooka dooka DOOOOOKa." No idea. But he says it a lot. I say it back. We have a great conversation.

Thud/crash/splat
Mama/Daddy: Elliot, why did you throw your food/cup on the floor? Does it go there?
Elliot: "In mouth." (Finger jabs into mouth) " No floor." (Vehement head shake)
Mama/Daddy: "That's right. Not on the floor."
Elliot: "Mess!"
Mama/Daddy: "That's right. What a mess. Is that good or bad?"
Elliot: "Baaaaad."
Mama/Daddy: "And what do you say when you make a mess?"
Elliot: "So-eeeee."
Mama/Daddy: "Thank you for being sorry, Elliot."
Thud/crash/splat
.... and it continues.

"Walk. Walk. Walk Now. NOW. Walk. Now. Walk Now."
"Banana. Now. Now Banana. Banana NOW."

Oh boy!
